2009: An Education

Nick Hornby's script, set in 1961 England, about a sixteen-year-old schoolgirl and her petty bourgeois parents falling for a rich, good-looking and cultured man in his late twenties (I think) is somewhat predictable, as are the characters, but makes up for it with humour, a sense of place and time and an excellent performance by Carey Mulligan in the female lead, so I can recommend it overall.
